SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAMS

Code Like a Girl

Code Like a Girl is hosting Coding Camps and Coding Workshops for girls aged 8-11 and 12-15 in the school holidays January 2019. Girls will use coding to create digital art, learn how to build a website with HTML and CSS, and complete challenges to bring their creativity to life. Code Like a Girl’s coding camps and workshops compliments the SA curriculum. We put a great emphasis on providing girls with a nurturing environment to comfortably learn and explore different areas of coding at their own pace, based on their interests. Our coding camp is small in size at around 20 girls per cohort, and led by women who work in the tech and education industry. Our facilitators provide girls with inspirational female role models, not only addressing some of the barriers to women’s participation in STEM and entrepreneurship, but also encouraging more girls to realise their potential.

Code Camp: Creative Coding ages 8-11 –  Jan 15-17 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Code Workshop: Creative Coding ages 12-15 – Jan 22 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

The Big Book of Pirates at the Maritime Museum

Join the South Australian Maritime Museum for the Big Book of Pirates, a guide for the brave, the not so brave, and the total scaredy-cats amongst you, into the world of pirates!

Watch the not quite ferocious Captain Salmon Beard, and his not very mean and only a little bit horrible crew, as they bumble their way across one or two of the seven seas, with The Big Book of Pirates as their guide!

Do they have what it takes to join the celebrated pantheon of such famous pirates as Bluebeard, Long John Silver, and the notorious pirate queen Teuta of Illyria? Or will it all end in disaster, mayhem, and an awkward retreat back home?

Come dressed in your pirate gear, follow the crew on their blundering misadventures, and maybe even show them a thing or two!

7 to 25 January 2019 | Weekdays performances at 11am and 1pm, $6 per child includes the lighthouse (bookings not required).
