If you’ve got little sports fans in the house then grab a copy of Nick’s Fabulous Footy Cards and you can be sure they will become little reading fans too! The tip from our reviewers indicate it’s best suited to ages 5-9years old, and incorporates great themes from teamwork, to persistence and believing in yourself. Written by Greg Fish for his nephew the book has appealing illustrations by Jason Trevenen and takes the reader through Nick’s journey after finding out his footy card collection comes to life!

The book is written with humour and a great language aimed at young readers, with easy to understand wording, short chapters and the occasional graphic. The young boys we asked were big fans and not only because it was funny, but also because it had a good story about Nick getting back into his groove on and off the field after injury. I’m sure young girls would also appreciate this eary to read, fun book too.

My husband loves it because he is AFL obsessed and enjoyed reading the short 3-6 page chapters each night. When we loaned it to our family friend, apparently their 7 year old daughter stayed up after usual lights out time to finish reading in one night by torchlight, so it must be entertaining for the kids too!

Overall, if you’ve got kids aged 5-9 years old then this is a great book. If you’ve got relunctant reading boys, AFL fans or young readers getting into short stories on their own then even better because this Nick’s Fabulous Footy Cards is perfect for them!
