Slingsby Theatre Company

Emil and the Detectives – Never underestimate the determination of a child!

Young Emil catches a train to visit family in the big city. Something valuable is stolen. But the thief soon discovers Emil was not such an easy target. A group of quick- thinking and resourceful children rallies around. Can a bunch of kids work together to uncover and outsmart the true criminal?

Kästner’s 1929 novella is more than a good romp, it broke ground for the independent-children-versus-devious- adults story genre. Streetwise city kids, a hard-working single moth er and Emil’s past brush with the law add grit and nuance to this satisfying tale.

How do we find our friends in the world?

How do we work together to defeat tricksters? In Slingsby’s signature intimate theatrical style, Emil and The Detectives is told by two skilled actors immersed in smoke and mirrors, miniature worlds and a cinematic score. Dark and light, intrigue and delight for audiences aged eight and upwards.

World Premiere 19 July – 5 August
Level 5, Myer Centre Adelaide

AdventureRooms

The AdventureRooms games have become some of the most successful and popular tourist attractions in cities across the globe, with over 30 venues world-wide including one here in Adelaide.

Room designs were created by a physics teacher in Bern, Switzerland in 2012. To play, players enter the rooms in teams and will have 1 hour to work together in an attempt to escape. The 3 rooms feature individual themes – Gaol Break, The Black Queen and The Mad Scientist – and are filled with hidden and unusual objects and puzzles that need to be discovered and solved in order to perform the escape. There are both Standard (2-7 players) and Duel (8-14 players) formats of the games.

Depending on the size of the teams, players can expect to pay $28-$36 each per game, with vouchers also available for the perfect gift. It is recommended for an older audience with children under 16 needing to be accompanied by an adult. Its global success is largely attributed to its popularity with corporate team building events, students, parties, sporting clubs and family outings.

AdventureRooms is quickly becoming the most popular amusement activity in Adelaide with a 5-star rating on Facebook and TripAdvisor. Only 30% of people escape… Can You?
